Marrakech: One of the most instagramable cities

Hey, guys! I came back with a new post that I hope you will like as much as I do. My holiday in Morocco meant a lot to me because it was the first vacation I made outside of Europe and one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever lived.

I spent two weeks full of activities and surrounded by wonderful places.

Usually, when I plan a vacation, I also make a list of places, restaurants and shops that I want to visit. To my surprise, this was the first vacation that I did not respect anything on the list, I discovered other places I was curious to see.

There are a lot of things I would like to tell you about Morocco, but I’ll cover the most important and beautiful moments here.

The flight was a bit tedious because I had a stop in Milan, about 6 hours. Important to know is that you absolutely need passports to visit this country.

In the early days, I enjoyed the city, and I explored a lot.

The real adventure, it seemed to me the traffic, which is super chaotic, there are no signs (or at least no one respects them). Cars, motorbikes, horses, bikes, buses, all drive as they want and where they want, which is a little strange and creates quite a stir in the city.

I was lucky to be accommodated in some of the most beautiful Riads in Morocco, each with another style and another story in the back. Riads are their traditional, beautifully colored houses, with a central point, a garden or fountain.

“La Mamounia” we had a wonderful experience. The hotel is surrounded by the finest gardens, and is certainly the most elegant, luxurious and welcoming place I have ever stayed in.

Mamounia is the most famous and largest luxury hotel known for its rich history. Its architecture and design have made this place popular among a number of noble guests and celebrities.

Each room has a different style, but the same superb view from any angle. It is known for its spa, outdoor pool, sauna, mini-shopping mall and all the wonderful places to relax.

I felt great in this place, it was a real pleasure to see it.

Another great place where I stood was the Riad “Be Marrakech”. It is located in the center of Medina, the old town of Marrakech.

“Be Marrakech,” is an authentic Moroccan place full of history, tradition, music and pleasant atmosphere. It is a type of hotel that offers a true Moroccan experience.

What amazed me the most about these Riads is that all seems nice, colorful and welcoming. But, behind the large wooden gates, there are stunning views hiding there, waiting to offer its guests the most beautiful moments.

Here were two beautiful pools, where I ate my breakfast and enjoyed the best mint tea. I spent a lot of time in this place where I took a lot of beautiful pictures.

Fortunately, I had enough time to visit the most important tourist locations, including one of my favorite places, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum on Rue Yves Saint Laurent. Here is a part of the collection that belongs to Pierre Bergé Foundation – Yves Saint Laurent and many of his sketches.

Also in the area, there is the lovely garden “Le Jardin Majorelle”. A place with a beautiful garden and many exotic plants, which the French painter Jacques Majorelle designed as a place for inspiration.

If I got to Morocco, I could not miss the camel ride and an unforgettable night in the Sahara desert. It was the first idea that came through my mind when I planned my vacation.

The desert night was a unique experience which I recommend and I want to repeat it as soon as possible.

I chose a one-night trip in the Sahara Desert, which included several stops on the route.

One of the stops was in the famous clay city, Ait Benhaddou, in the Ouarzazate region, at the bottom of the Atlas Mountains.

With a guide, I visited the whole city until I reached the top, and there was a beautiful panorama view.

Ait Benhaddou, has become known for countless films that have been filmed here: Game of Thrones, The Mummy, Gladiator, Babel, Prince of Persia, Oedipus Rex, The Man Who Would Be King, The Jewel of the Nile, 007: The Living Daylights, Asterix and Obelix, Son of God, etc.

The car I went with left us near the desert, where the Berbers were expecting us, along with their camels, they guide us to the tents located in the sand dunes.

I had the most beautiful sunset at the time of the camel ride.

When I arrived on the camp, I went down from the top of camel, looked around and realized how amazing is that place.

The Berbers took us with open hearts, prepared a traditional meal, with campfire, mint tea, beautiful music and an unforgettable atmosphere.

The night was terribly cold (during the day it was around 30 ° C and in the evening did not exceed 5 ° C). But it was worth the cold because I had the opportunity to see the most clear and beautiful sky, covered by falling stars, in a quiet atmosphere in the middle of the desert.

The next day, I woke up very early to see the sunrise and not miss a moment out of the trip.

The road to Marrakesh was very long, about 400 km, but it certainly deserved this amazing experience.

On the way back I made a few short stops, at some point it started to rain (which is extremely rare in that area).

All this trip cost about 80 € / person. It seems to me a very good price, considering that the road was very long, I made many stops on the route, I had a guide all the time, I rode the camel for a few hours, the tent where I stayed was very nice and it in this price was included dinner and breakfast, which were very good and consistent.

The next day I stayed in the city, bought souvenirs and ate at an extraordinary good restaurant, located in the Central Market. Luckily I had time to take a lot of pictures through the city, visited some museums, and then headed back at Riad.

One day, I woke up at 07:00 AM and I left with the agency to “Cascades d’Ouzoud.” That cost me about 30 € / person.

I could not miss one of the most beautiful waterfalls around the world.

This time I went by bus about 150km – 200km. We have gone through many poor and small villages at quite distant from each other. It seemed sad to me that the schools were halfway between the villages, and the children were forced to walk or to hitchhike over long distances.

After a few hours, I arrived at the Ouzoud Fountain, located in the Ouzoud village, on the territory of Azilal Province.

The surrounding villages are inhabited by friendly Berbers, who walked us through the area to take pictures and see how they live. I cannot believe how beautiful and peaceful this place is.

I took a boat ride to the waterfall, it cost about 10 €.

During the walk through the city, I found three large monkey families with whom I played. Unfortunately, we found out that they are not all very friendly. The species of monkeys found in this area is called maggoty. They are used to people, walk among tourists, they are very nice, but unfortunately they can very easily steal objects from people or the food you try to give them (as it happened to me).

Surely, this place loaded me with a very good state, with emotions and a desire to return as soon as possible. We had a wonderful lunch with a story view, standing by the waterfall.

It was hard for me to leave this place, but at least I did a lot of pictures and videos to remind me of this wonderful day.

Last night, we had the most beautiful and romantic dinner at the finest restaurant, Le Salama, located downtown, in the Jmaa El Fnaa Market. This restaurant is divided into three floors with a panoramic terrace overlooking the Atlas Mountains and a 360 ° Medina.

The menu is very rich, it offers the best ingredients of Moroccan cuisine “Pastilla” with chicken, Grilled eggplant salad, Caviar, Classic lamb Tajine with plums and almonds, Couscous with lamb chops, etc.

It also offers an extensive list of cocktails, wines, refined drinks and desserts. Not to mention the fact that the entire restaurant is actually a beautiful flower garden and plants, which create a pleasant atmosphere of peace and relaxation.

I wanted to share this experience with you, and to tell you that it is worth planning a holiday in Morocco. Have the opportunity to see with your eyes the conditions in which those people live, but at the same time how much is appreciated everything and how beautiful and colorful is the whole country.

If you need a holiday full of adventure, where you can visit wonderful places, good food and affordable price, Morocco is certainly a perfect option.
