Hey, guys! I came back with a new post, this time from a nice and warm place.
I thought I’d write a few words about my last summer vacation in Greece, Rhodes Island.
If you plan your holiday on this wonderful island, I recommend you to have some free time to visit the surrounding islands too.
You can’t get bored especially when you have to visit one of the most beautiful medieval cities, the Old Town of Rhodes, very authentic and full of history.
Rhodes is divided into two large areas, the new and the old city. People are kind, full of life and eager to help with any information.
The old city is very large and very beautiful, being delimited by the walls. To really enjoy this area, you need at least one day to visit it. This part of the island is full of terraces, good restaurants at affordable prices (10 euro pizza). Beautiful places to visit in the area are, the ancient Greek ruins, the temple, the gardens and the stadium.
In the new town, you have the opportunity to reach the beach, at the northernmost point, where the Aegean Sea connects with the Mediterranean Sea. Another great place in this area is the harbor, full of boats cruising on other islands in the area. This harbor is surrounded by windmills, where you have a wonderful view with a cliff and a casino that you should not miss.
I went on a cruise on Lindos, a great place with a small bay and a large temple on the hill near the city. From here you can climb on narrow streets, on foot or on a donkey, driven by locals, to the Acropolis, from where you can admire the whole island.
I spent almost all day on this place, admired the white, authentic Greek buildings in town, strolled through the souvenir shops and ate at a very good Greek restaurant. Although here prices are higher than Rhodes, the food is very fresh and diversified.
On our return we stopped for a swim in Anthony Quinn Bay, a small bay with very clear salty water and full of small fish.
On the next cruise, I visited two gorgeous places that definitely persuaded me to get back in one day.
The first place I visited was the Orthodox monastery of Panormitiscu, dedicated to San Miguel Arcángel. The interior of the monastery is well maintained, although it is small and can be visited for up to two hours. The mountains that support it give a unique effect to the place, but unfortunately due to the large number of tourists visiting it, it does not have the same effect of silence as other monasteries.
The second place I visited was the bay of Symi, one of the most beautiful and colorful towns I have ever seen. It is very close to Turkey, between two peninsulas, close to Marmaris.
The island is full of narrow paved streets, surrounded by beautifully colored houses, café shops, Greek taverns, and souvenir shops.
The rest of the days I spent in Rhodes, I had time to visit the whole island, shop in the city center and enjoy the sea.
Recommend this island and all these cruises for people who want to walk and see special, authentic Greek places and want to relax away from the noise of the cities.
